Dr. Mukherjee and Parliament
After independence when first ministry was formed it was Jawaharlal Nehru who was not willing to include Shyamaprasadji in his cabinet. But Sardar Patel and Gandhiji were in favour of inclusion of Shyamaprasadji in the cabinet.Ultimately Nehru had no option but to make him Minister of Industries.

Due to political differences on the issue of Kashmir, he had resigned from the cabinet. He had failed the diplomatic move of British to surrender whole Punjab and Bengal to Pakistan. He pleaded that the erstwhile states when bifurcated, considering the population of Muslims then in Punjab and Bengal there were Hindu majority districts. Therefore portion of Punjab and Bengal were merged in India.

He was an eloquent speaker. Even Nehru and Mountbatten preferred to hear him in parliament. He was a visionary having foresightedness and boldness.

To remove permit system to enter in the province of Jammu and Kashmir he had led the movement. When he got the support of people during agitation then Sheikh Abdullah arrested him and imprisoned him. In custody, he mysteriously died. In Ataljis words ” gadh ala par sinh chala gaya” means permit system thereafter abolished but Shyamji died.

Who Killed Him?
Despite several demands to investigate the cause of his death, Nehru did not institute an inquiry. Why? It is said that Nehru and Sheikh Abdullah were blood relatives.
